Newsletter – December 2006

GREETINGS

The President and Members of the General Committee of The Dutch Burgher Union extend to each and every member and their families the blessings of Christmas – Love, Peace and Joy and may these remain with you throughout the coming year.

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

Dear Member,

We are in the month of Christmas once again which today is universally celebrated. It is a magical time of year evoking childhood memories of flickering candles, over-flowing stockings and familiar family traditions. We all have special memories that capture the magic of the season.

We ushered in Christmas with our fantastic Dinner Dance – Christmas Fantasy – on 2nd December 2006. All those who attended would have been caught up in the camaraderie and fellowship that prevailed that night. Every Wednesday evening Darlan and friends entertain us in the upstairs bar/lounge area. The 20th December will be special – Darlan will be joined by the BA choir who will present an evening of Christmas Carols by candle-light. As usual Members and their spouses will be free while guests will be charged Rs.200/= per guest. Please do participate and make this too a memorable evening.

Friday evenings are special with Jerome Speldewinde who will continue to entertain us in the downstairs hall/garden area. Tickets are priced at Rs.300/=

Whether we are Christians or not, I think we will this Christmas pray not only for twinkling lights and the wonderful sound of the excited laughter of children, but more ardently for permanent peace, harmony, goodwill to all and for an end to the violence which has become a feature of our time.

Wishing you a Happy Christmas and a peaceful New Year and looking forward to seeing you at the DBU more often.

An Evening of Entertainment – 22nd November 2006

It gives me great pleasure to inform you that our fund raiser “An Evening of Entertainment” was a great success and we managed to reach our target of Rs. IOO,OOO/= over and above. The total profit for the evening amounted to Rs.I09,385/= and due to the generous donations by Mrs Rozanne Hemdev, Mr Romesh Fernando, Mrs Jean Nathanielsz, Mrs Vilma Chapman and Mr Dominic Sansoni a total amount of Rs.140,385/= has been credited to the DBU Welfare H Beneficiary Sponsorship Project.

This augurs well for our Welfare Beneficiary project and we will be able to sponsor a few more less advantaged Senior Citizens during the year 2007.
My sincere thanks and appreciation is extended to Mrs Rozanne Hemdev who helped in no small measure and without whom this evening would not have been the success it was. Thanks is also due to Mr Michael Wijesooriya, House of Barefoot, all the models who graced the cat-walk and last but not least our excellent compere – our very own Tracy Holsinger- Tennakone.

Wishing you a Blessed Christmas and peace and joy in the New Year 2007.

Fleur Mack
Chairperson DBU WB Sponsorship Project

Eve of St. Nikolaas’ Fete – 5th December 2006

It was a happy occasion on the 5th of December when the locally sponsored children were invited to participate in the Eve of St. Nikolaas’ party along with our Members’ children and grand-children. All of them enjoyed the frolic of the fun and games which included a bouncer. Also on the programme was a Treasure Hunt and a Dancing competition for which prizes were awarded to the winners. St. Nikolaas was there in all his splendour to distribute the much awaited gifts and sweets. Last but not least was the layout of good food, ice cream and beverages which they relished with enthusiasm.

On the 19th of December the Welfare Beneficiaries will be hosted to a Christmas party when they will also receive a handsome bonus. On the 21st December the children sponsored by the Eighty Club Melbourne will be entertained to a Christmas party.

Wishing you Christmas joy and peace and happiness in the New Year 2007.

Anthea Muller

“CHRISTMAS FANTASY” Dinner Dance – 2nd December 2006

Dear Kem,

The above Event was an outstanding success.

Although I served as Chairman of the Dance Committee, I would be failing if I did not acknowledge that it was essentially your total commitment and energetic involvement to see that every little detail had received due attention, that ensured the smooth passage of this undertaking to its ultimate fruition.

My thanks go out also to the entire General Committee and Dance Committee, for their various contributions in bringing this Event together.
The arrangements were without fault, including the smooth operation of the Bar. All concerned in the Committee who were involved with the planning and execution of the general Organization, sale of Raffle Tickets etc., are owed a big “Thank-you”.

It would be appropriate also to convey the appreciation of the, DBU and the Dance Committee to Marize Anthonisz and Nigel of “Ohzone”, who did a very Professional Job on our behalf. Our Club Building and surrounds, including the beautiful Marquees certainly looked very special. The whole ambience was exceptional and perfectly created for such a special occasion. I must say that the Music provided by the two Bands was greatly appreciated. Certainly, no inducement was required to get anyone on the Dance Floor!

Congratulations go to all in our General Committee and the Dance Committee on a great job done. Also, our thanks to all the Donors for their generous support and to those Members of the General Committee and Dance Committee who were responsible for bringing in significant Donations, Gifts and such Prizes as Airline Tickets, including a Tour of the Holy Land.

With Best Regards and renewed thanks to the entire Team.

Sincerely,

Nigel
Chairman – Dance Committee
